What should I wear for Just Jhoom! classes?

Aerobic or workout clothes are fine - comfortable leggings or trousers and a t-shirt along with suitable footwear such as trainers or dance shoes. You might want to invest in an Indian style top to add a bit of extra ‘flavour’ - if so, make sure it’s comfortable to dance in! We will be introducing a range of suitable Just Jhoom! tops soon – so watch this space!

Do I need to have dance experience to take part in a class?

No. Just Jhoom! classes are designed for people of all ages and abilities. You simply work at your own pace.

I’m not very fit - does that matter?

Your Just Jhoom! class is suitable for almost everyone – no matter what age, size or fitness level. The classes have been designed to improve your fitness. You don’t have to do any high energy, high impact movements (unless you want to). You can start with gentle, low intensity movements and work at your own pace. Most people find that their fitness levels improve over the course of a few weeks.

Just Jhoom! is based on Bollywood dance - but I’m not sure what that is!

The word ‘Bollywood’ is a conflation of Bombay (renamed Mumbai in 1995) and Hollywood. Bollywood was a term coined in the 1980s to describe the Hindi film industry. Today Bollywood films are linked to song and dance, melodrama and extravagant productions.
There are numerous film industries in India, whose total output, in approximately twenty languages, make it a huge industry. But, Bollywood is the largest in the world producing up to 100 films each year, watched by 3.5million people daily.

Where can I find the music that you play in the Just Jhoom! classes?

The music played in the classes is chosen very carefully from the 1000s of songs released each year by the Bollywood film industry. All songs are available to download for a very reasonable price from Amazon or itunes. Ask your Instructor for the names of the songs used.

I would like to watch a Bollywood film. Can you recommend any?

With 100s of films to choose from it would be difficult to give you a list of all the recommendations. Below are a few recent ones that are particularly good for song and dance.
Jodha Akbar (2008)
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)
Om Shanti Om (2007)
Guru (2007)
Aaja Nachle (2007)
Jab We Met (2007)

Do ask your Instructor for names of other films.
