Why I created the Teach Bollywood Dance! online course.

Around 2 years ago my partner Jeremy was diagnosed with cancer. It blew my world apart.

Many of you will know that I was travelling around the country training Just Jhoom! Instructors at the time – spreading the Joys of Jhoom!

After the diagnosis I realised that I didn’t want to travel as much – I needed (and wanted) to stay home a lot more. But, I still had a burning desire to share my knowledge of Bollywood dancing with others.

At the same time the fitness and dance industries were changing. More and more fitness brands were being launched. It seemed that everyone wanted to launch the next Zumba. And fitness instructors were running from training course to training course, learning new styles, opening new classes and trying out “the next big thing”!

In the process they were spending money (and time) on marketing new classes, paying more and more license fees and working hard to generate a buzz for the fitness brand of the moment. All this taking away from the one thing you want to get on and do – teach!

To me this is not a sustainable way of working. It’s not stable enough – it’s much too transient.

Loyalty vs Trends

At the end of the day, your clients will fall into two categories – the fickle lot who jump from one dance/fitness style to the next – and the loyal bunch who will stay with you no matter what. I know which group I want to attract – and I have been doing so for the last 15 years. My ladies (and yes – they are mostly women) are super loyal. Some have been with me since the day I started my Bollywood dance classes. And, they are my biggest (and free) promotional tool.

So, it is this group of people that I want to continue to teach. My Loyal Ladies. I don’t want to jump from brand to brand – I need to give my ladies (and myself) some stability and keep my classes sustainable. But, I also need to keep things fresh – and introduce new dances and routines. I’m sure you can relate to this.

Versatility and Flexibility

Bollywood dance is hugely versatile. You will have seen that when Jai Ho came out. It didn’t matter which class you were teaching – you could do Jai Ho! Well, that’s true of all Bollywood dances. Because Bollywood dance is a style that borrows from all genres – Indian classical, bhangra, hip hop, salsa, ballet, jazz, modern, aerobics  (well basically anything!) it then conversely fits well into any style of class – whether dance or dance-fitness. Its flexibility means you can also use a variety of props and do seated work for those who are less mobile. You can also adapt all the movements to suit your style of class and teaching.

New Training

And so this is where the Teach Bollywood Dance course comes in.

This 7-module online training course will give you all the techniques, tips and tools to seamlessly include Bollywood movement into your current classes. The training will give you the key aspects you need as well as a multitude of bonuses for those of you who want to take the learning even further. Basically you decide how much information you want (and need) to start teaching Bollywood dancing.

After the one-off course price, there is no further outlay and no license fees. And, as it is all on our new, easy-to-use online learning platform, you do all the learning in the comfort of your own home with the use of video clips, a DVD, illustrations and some theory. So, no accommodation or travel costs either. Each module will take you about 1 hour to do. So in less than a weekend, you could be including Bollywood movements in to your classes.

Why am I doing this?

I have a lot of knowledge and ideas, skills and techniques I have honed over the last 15 years of teaching Bollywood dance. And, I don’t want to waste it and not share it with others. I want to get the information out there – to teachers and instructors to carry on using all the choreography and routines, steps and movement. I want you in turn to share it with your classes. I don’t mind which class you run – Keep Fit, Zumba, Freestyle, Fitsteps – just go out there and teach your classes some Bollywood dancing!

With me, you know you will get an authentic style – that is specifically created to appeal to a wide range of people of all ages and from all walks of life. These steps and routines are tried and tested – they are popular with my classes – and they really work!

Bollywood dancing is fun and uplifting – both for you as a teacher and for your classes. Join me and let’s spread the joy together.
