X4 JFL Golf Day in Memory of Jeremy

On 2nd April 2017, over 90 members, friends and family turned up at Bramley Golf Club to remember Jeremy at the X4 JFL Golf Day  – named after his beloved car.

It was a beautiful day, the course looked lovely, the starter hut and noticeboard were so well crafted – a really amazing tribute to Jeremy. And, the competition was won by Jeremy’s friend Terry and Jeremy’s future son-in-law Tom (who just happened to be playing with Jeremy’s golf clubs and wearing his gold shoes!) It was obviously meant to be!

Below is an account of the day by Jeremy’s good friend Terry Newman.

Sunday 2nd April saw the X4 JFL event take place in beautiful warm weather, under blue skies, with a shotgun start on a Florida Scramble, and a course nearly full of competitors.  The event was, in part, the culmination of a project, instigated by the Main Committee last August, to create an enduring memorial to our former friend, club manager, and lifelong supporter of Bramley Golf Club, Jeremy Lucas.

The other part of the project was the establishment of a permanent shelter, housing an information notice board, by the first tee.  The entire project has been funded by donations from members and friends of Jeremy, proceeds from the event, and other fundraising efforts, including a massive raffle on the day… but there’s still room for more donations, so don’t forget: next time you are sheltering, waiting to tee off or reading what’s on the calendar for the month, pop a few more bob into the office!

The shelter was officially launched by Jeremy’s wife, Shalini; but, with the tight timescale from the end of construction, it is yet to be treated and painted, so looked very prominent in the bright sunshine.

Over 90 people joined the clubhouse for lunch, one of Jeremy’s favourites – sausages!  Prizes were awarded to the first 2 groups: runners-up Liz Atkinson, Fiona Collett, Jim Tuck and Martin Rudd; and winners (and some say “fix”!) to the group including Jeremy’s daughter’s fiancé, Tom Gee, his friends, Charlie Bennett and Chris Irving and one of the project organisers, Terry Newman.  The first prizes were beautiful Kenyan wildlife photos, printed on canvas, and taken by Jeremy during one of his trips to his favourite destination.

All-in-all a wonderful warm atmosphere exuded on the day, demonstrating yet again what a welcoming and friendly club Bramley is, and how much Jeremy was appreciated.
